Do you ever find yourself in a place where one season of your life is ending but the next chapter hasn’t quite started yet? Perhaps you’re preparing for a career change, moving to a new city, or being pushed out of your comfort zone in areas of personal and spiritual development. You know, the in-between space. I can relate because that’s where I am right now, along with a few people close to me. Perhaps you’ve experienced something similar or maybe I’ve just described your current situation.
1 Chronicles 12:32 says the Sons of Issachar understood the times and knew what they should do. Proverbs 29:18 says where there is no vision, the people perish. I want to encourage you today to seek God about where He has you right now and where He’s leading you. Sometimes God instructs us to remain still and sometimes we can sense a shift taking place. For me, those shifts can be uncomfortable because they come with so much uncertainty. And that’s when I have to learn all over again that God is Sovereign. He is in control. His plans for you and I are good.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” – Jeremiah 29: 1
I was recently gifted a new pair of shoes. And I may or may not wear them everyday 🙂 But one reason I chose them is because I loved the way they felt when I tried them on in the store. I wore my old shoes (that I went to the store with) the remainder of that day and noticed something felt off. After further inspection, I realized my old shoes were too small. I’d gotten them over 10 years ago and my feet have grown a half size larger since then.
By the time I’d gotten back home (hours later) my toes were hurting. It was so subtle, yet I realized my old shoes had been uncomfortable for quite a while; I just never paid it any attention. My guess is that after a couple times, I’d gotten used to the uncomfortable feeling. I had become conditioned to that subtle pain. It took a glimpse of me experiencing something better suited for me to realize that the old thing wasn’t working anymore – it was time for a change.
Change can be scary but it’s necessary. You can’t be the woman God has called you to be in this season, if you’re trying to hold on to the old version of you. The comfort you crave can actually stunt your growth.
Once you’ve prayed and sought God concerning this season, be open to it. Accept it. God is transitioning you for his glory. Everything He does is with purpose. The next step to embracing the middle is to know that you are not alone in this. I love to be in control but surrendering is truly trusting God and knowing He’s got you 100%. With Him, you cannot fail. Lastly, listen. And don’t just listen, but obey. Ask God to align your heart and desires with His. When you’re open to what He has for you, He’ll blow your mind.
“He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful” – John 15:2
Hours after I wrote this blog post in my journal, a sermon was uploaded on YouTube called “While I’m Waiting.” Stephanie Ike is one of my favorite speakers and I always feel so in-tune with what she’s saying. I was in awe when she began speaking about “Embracing the Shift” within hours of me writing a similar themed message in my journal. Her message truly blessed me. For more encouragement, check out that sermon here: https://youtu.be/8HHZaUlPWZc
