Listening is just as important as praying. In order to receive confirmation and instruction, we must actually pause to hear what God is saying. How silly would it be if you were to call a friend, ask them a question, and then hang up the phone before they give you an answer? That's what we do when we end our prayers before waiting for God to speak.
In my family, whenever we gather for a celebration, there’s always cake involved. And as an unofficial family tradition, I receive one of the four corner pieces of said cake (corner pieces have the most icing!). By the time I get to the dessert table, I know there’s a single corner piece off to the side, just for me. And just as I look forward to receiving what I consider to be the best part of a cake, God also desires our best.
Sometimes we don't recognize people as "toxic" because we've already labeled them as "trusted." Those you spend time with affect your character. Don't compromise your purpose or your faith due to comfort or familiarity. Instead, be mindful of who you're attaching yourself to and if it will be worth it in the long run. Remember, “convenience" comes with a cost.
Sincerely searching for the good in others is so much more beneficial than judging them or focusing on negativity.
