My home is my safe space. I have intentionally created an atmosphere that is welcoming and peaceful. Many times I’ve had a long day or felt overwhelmed in a crowded room but when I got home, I instantly felt better. Now, disclaimer – I am by no means an expert in this area. But it’s important to me that I cover and protect my space. So today, I would like to share my process with you and help you do the same.
One of the best things you can do is pray over your home and the people in it. I work in an industry where I meet so many people, and I don’t always know what their intentions are upfront. A few weeks ago, a client I’d spoken with before got upset and tried to spiritually curse me. I blocked her number but she continued to call me from multiple different numbers and leave long voicemails, attempting to curse my life. I felt so unsettled but I knew the power I had in Jesus. Praying over myself, my home and my overall protection was the only thing that made me feel better.
In another situation, I walked into a house with my clients and something felt off. There were scary statements written on the walls, then, one of my clients had a really heavy feeling and the other one got lightheaded out of nowhere. We left the house and I immediately began to pray out loud for us and our protection.
“There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.” Psalm 91:10 (KJV)
Before I go to sleep, I always pray that God will surround my bedside with angels and that He will surround my home with angels. Sometimes angels are depicted as soft, delicate creatures. But angels are actually warriors and one of their roles is to protect us. I rest well imagining that there are armed warriors standing shoulder to shoulder, surrounding my entire house.
“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all thy ways.” Psalm 91:11 (KJV)
Anointing your home with oil is the next step. Purchasing anointing oil is fine, but I prefer using extra virgin olive oil that I’ve prayed over. We are all created in God’s image and through our relationship with Him, He gives us power and authority over the enemy (Luke 10:19). Dip your finger into your bottle of oil and as you pray over your oil, pray that whatever you touch is anointed, in Jesus’ name and that no harmful person, spirit, thing, etc. will enter your home. I like to pray that if there is anything that shouldn’t be in my home, that it will leave now. As I walk through my home, I pray these things out loud, along with Psalm 91.
I pour the oil into my hand or onto my finger and use the oil to anoint every door, window, and mirror, as all of those are points of entry. I have even gone so far as to anoint my television with the oil, because there are so many hidden messages in media. I pray that no evil will enter my home and I thank God for my home. Be sure to go through every part of your home and bless your home.
Some choose to dab the doors, etc. with the oil while others choose to form a cross. I heard one pastor say that he anoints himself and his wife (their heads and feet), and that he also anoints his wallet and his wife’s purse, declaring that their finances are also blessed. Declare that your body and your family’s bodies are covered by the blood and anointing of God. We have authority to speak the word and God watches over that word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12).
“The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.” Jeremiah 1:12 (NIV)
I’m a dreamer. God has spoken to me in dreams numerous times and I’ve also been spiritually attacked in dreams. One of the scariest dreams I’ve had is when a demonic spirit tried to choke me and when I woke up (after calling the name of Jesus), my neck was hurting for hours. We are spiritual beings and we must be spiritually protected. Because I’ve felt more vulnerable lately, I recently started back playing music while I sleep. I play Jesus by Shekinah Glory on repeat because it says the name of Jesus over and over again. Sometimes I’ll switch it up and have a gospel playlist on repeat. Either way, the music plays all night. Since I’m a light sleeper and I don’t like noise, I turn the volume low to where I can’t hear it. Spirits can hear the smallest sounds and evil spirits do not like the name of Jesus!!
There are certain shows I don’t watch and certain music I don’t listen to in my home anymore. There have been times where I had a weird, hesitant feeling about someone who was supposed to visit me and I canceled the visit. Part of protecting ourselves is using our discernment. Listen to the gut feelings or nudges the Holy Spirit is giving you. I know it may not seem “that serious” but this is what works for me.
Again, I am no expert in this area but I pray you find this useful. If you don’t already, I would like to invite you to regularly pray, anoint and intentionally guard your home. And if you do, what are some other ways you protect your home? I would love to hear from you!
“I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: My God; in him will I trust.” Psalm 91:2 (KJV)
