It was one of those days that started off normal. I went about my routine as I typically would. A YouTube video played in the background while I finished a task I was working on. And then I got the call. One of those calls that stops you in your tracks and you forget about every minuscule thing that doesn't really matter. My heart sank as I fought back the tears.

In my family, whenever we gather for a celebration, there’s always cake involved. And as an unofficial family tradition, I receive one of the four corner pieces of said cake (corner pieces have the most icing!). By the time I get to the dessert table, I know there’s a single corner piece off to the side, just for me.
